Blood Donation, Best Donation : Myths and Facts.
WE all have seen, exprienced, or atlease heard people requiring BLOOD for the well being of their folks. BLOOD, the basic element of the living, may it be blue for Octopus, red for Humans or White for Cockroach, its necessity and importance remains uniform for every living exister. Well .. coming to that red colour of the human blood, let me brush up your 6th grades biology class's lessons a bit for you. An average human body has 5.6 liters of blood. A drop of blood compromises of Red Blood Cells(RBC), White Blood Cells(WBC), Plasma and Platelets. Signing off as a Science Professor over here (:P), I would like to jump to the notion on which I'm here to talk. Well, Blood is the basic unit of living, and nearly 400k people die as the consequence of scarcity of blood. What if every of the person who requires blood get it delivered on time? The world will become healthier and happier :D .. But unfortunately that isn't happening in the current scenario. Then how can we transform the former words into reality? Well.. blood is an element, that can't be artificially manufactured in the human laboratories, therefore the only source of it remains the natural depositories of the blood, i.e., WE, the "HUMANS". And the only way blood can be drained out of us is intravenously. And to let the whole world prosper and laugh like an infant, all of us should actually be willing to help eachother in the times of need. Here, I'm trying to clarify some of the misconceptions regarding this idea, that might help atleast some of the viewers to enhance their opinions and contribute towards the cause.
1)BLOOD DONATION CAUSES ANAEMIA
Well ..I frankly have heard ample of people saying that donating blood will cause their healthto suffer, leading to anaemia, Well, that's absolutely false ! Instead, when the blood is drained out of the body, the stagnant blood tends to process itself to makeup of the blood loss, hence manufacturing fresh blood for your body. Now just ask yourself. STAGNANT or FRESH ?
2)DONATING BLOOD IS A LONG PROCEDURE
Again, the whole act of blood donation usually ends in 20-30 minutes. So calling it inconvinient wouldn't be appropriate.
3)I'M TOO YOUNG OR TOO OLD TO DO THAT
Well ..anyone person above the age of 18 years can actually donate blood. There's no upper age limit, you can donate as long as you live healthy. :)
4)DONATION IS UNSAFE
It is "NOT AT ALL" an unsafe process, the equipments used are sealed equipments that are usually disposed off, after the process of donation is complete.
5)ENOUGH OF THE POPULATION IS DONATING BLOOD
Less the 5% population of the world contributes to this noble cause.
6)I'M SUFFERING FROM A DISEASE.
well .. this is though a genuine reason, but there are some of the situations in which you can donate blood despite of being struck by some disease.
a.DIABETES : You can donate blood as long as your sugar level is under control, even if you're a Diabetic.
b. I'M A HEART PATIENT
as long as you aren't on medication for it,you can donate blood.
c. I HAD A HEART STROKE
you can donate blood if it has been a year to the stroke.
These were the common misconceptions that people suffer or excuses that people make regarding blood donation. Educate yourself, educate your surroundings, and educate the world to be save the lives despite of not being an medico. :)
